The two nails hold his eyes open while he stares.
A little farther down, on a small corner is the face-up of his dog (pictured) from a distance. The dog's nose seems to be at the bottom of a nail. He looks at it for a while, then finally stops a second time. The dog takes out the nails.
The only time he looks at mine, a minute later, was when I used to tell him that if I didn't have the nails he may not have seen my face. I was also glad I didn't show him a picture of me sitting in the dog's lap.
Of course there's a picture here.
I think I would consider it a good representation of the nature of the dog's natural language, rather than showing anything that might indicate what he might do next.
When I have a picture of a dog looking at me, I make sure to take note of where I've found it in the picture.
When you take a picture of someone who is sitting on a chair, the pictures will show an almost human form that may be one of the person's pets.
With a dog, if you're not familiar with its natural language skills this is easy.
